How to use fabric scraps to create an original Easter decoration

Easter is a time of joy when we can enjoy the company of family and friends. Why not create your own original Easter decoration that we can use as a door or window decoration? If you have leftover fabrics or felt , you can use them to make beautiful flowers, bunnies, chicks and other decorations.

To create an Easter decoration, you will need the following materials:

  • Felt of different colors - you can choose different color combinations that you like.
  • The string on which you will sew the individual felt decorations.
  • Needle and thread - will be needed to sew the ornaments onto the string.
  • Scissors - will be needed to cut out the shapes from the felt.
  • Glue or double-sided adhesive tape - if you want the decorations to stick together better when sewing, you can use glue or double-sided adhesive tape.
  • Pencil and paper - for drawing templates.

How to do it:

  1. Draw on paper the shape you want to cut out of the felt . You can choose flowers, bunnies, chicks and other decorations.

  2. Trace the template onto the felt and cut it out. Always cut out each part of the ornament twice so that it can be sewn together afterwards.

  3. Prepare a string in a length that corresponds to the size of the door or window on which you want to hang the decoration. At one end of the string, make a loop with which you will attach the decoration.

  4. Start sewing the ornaments onto the string . Sew the colored center to both sides. Use glue or double-sided tape to attach the two pieces to the string and sew the two pieces together.

  5. Continue sewing the string ornaments evenly spaced, alternately sewing the string ornaments.

  6. If you have fabric leftovers from previous projects, you can use them to make our decoration special and give it an over-the-top look. For example, you can cut out small flowers from different colored fabrics and sew them onto felt flowers to create colorful flowers. Or you can sew some beads or pearls on the bunny and chick to make them stand out even more.

  7. Another option to make our decoration special is to use various accessories that are available in hobby markets and specialized stores. For example, you can use decorative buttons that you can sew onto felt flowers . Laces and ribbons can be used to create small bows to attach to ornaments. You can sew patches with Easter motifs, such as eggs or rabbits, on the bunny and chick.

  8. To increase the convenience of using the decoration, you can add small details , such as decorative zippers , which will allow easy attachment and removal of the decoration from the door or window. You can attach small artificial flowers or flower appliqués to the string between the individual ornaments to create an interesting effect.

We have a few more Easter crafting ideas for you:

Fabric bunny

One of the most popular motifs for Easter decorations is the bunny. You can create a simple decoration using white felt or other white fabric to serve as the bunny's head. Just cut out the bunny shape from the fabric and attach the head on top of the body with glue or pins. You can draw the eyes with a black marker and decorate the bunny with, for example, a ribbon or a flower.

Fabric chick

Another classic motif for Easter decorations are chickens. You can make a chick out of fabric that will look like a small bird. Just choose a colored fabric that reminds you of feathers and cut out the shape of a chick . Then you can make cute legs out of wire and attach them to the bottom of the body. You can draw the eyes and beak with a black marker or make them from another fabric . You can decorate the chick with, for example, a small flower wreath.

Fabric flowers

In addition to animals, you can also make beautiful flowers from fabric to use as part of your Easter wreath. You can make a flower from a circular piece of fabric and legs from wire . Spread a piece of fabric into a flat surface and place a small ball or bead in the center. Then put all the ends of the fabric on the foot and firmly connect it. You can decorate the flower with small pearls, beads or even feathers .
