What does the GOTS certificate mean?

GOTS, or Global Organic Textile Standard, is one of the strictest and most recognized international certificates for ensuring the ecological purity of production and the final product.

It protects the environment, is interested in employment ethics, prohibits child labor, ensures decent working conditions and the use of exclusively organic textiles.

How does the production process of fabrics with GOTS certificates work?

At the beginning of every fabric production is raw material , which is grown in fields with ecologically oriented agriculture , which is allowed to fertilize plants only with healthy and ecologically harmless sprays.

Thanks to this, even in the first stage of production, dangerous chemicals that can already stick to the plant at this stage are avoided.

Before the desired material is produced from the cultivated plant, it goes through a whole series of production steps, which include cleaning, spinning, bleaching, dyeing, weaving or knitting and final treatment of the fabric .

All production procedures are nature-friendly, ecologically sound . The resulting materials are pleasant and soft to the touch .

Even in the production of GOTS-certified fabrics, water and energy are needed.

All used water must go through a treatment process to remove all chemicals before being released back into nature.

Ecological Impact: Knitwear, Knitwear, Tracksuit with GOTS Certificate

Sustainability, Recycling, Resources

Knitted , knitted and tracksuit fabric with GOTS certificate are highly sustainable textiles. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is one of the strictest international standards for organic textiles. Not only does it require that all fibers in these fabrics be grown organically, it also sets minimum social and environmental criteria for the entire manufacturing process.

Recycling is a key element in the sustainability of these fabrics. Old pieces of clothing can be processed back into fibers and reused to make new textiles, reducing the need for new raw materials and minimizing waste.

In terms of resources, growing organic cotton and wool requires less water and chemical pesticides than conventional methods. This helps protect soil and water resources and promotes biodiversity.

Ethics and social responsibility: knit, knit, tracksuit with GOTS certificate

The GOTS certificate also ensures that all textiles meet high ethical and social standards. This includes fair wages and working conditions for all workers in the supply chain, including farmers, weavers and seamstresses. Any form of forced or child labor is strictly prohibited.

Many producers also adhere to fair trade principles, which means that more of the profit is returned directly to the producers, supporting their economic development and sustainability.

A great emphasis is also placed on a cruelty-free approach. This means that no animals are harmed or abused during the production process. For example, in the case of wool, care is taken to ensure that the animals are plucked in a gentle manner and given sufficient care.

Did you know that the GOTS certificate is divided into two levels:

Organic - consists mainly of 100% organic fibers, or can be mixed with elastane to increase flexibility

Made with x% organic - contains a minimum of 70% organic fibers and a maximum of 30% non-organic fibers

How to sew and care for fabrics with GOTS certificate

Materials with the GOTS certificate are generally recognized as high quality, and this is especially true for knitwear , knitwear and tracksuits . This certificate guarantees that these fabrics have been produced with respect for the environment and social justice, and also meet high standards of quality and durability.

  • Needles, Threads, Sewing Machines

It is important to choose the right tools when working with knitwear , knitwear or tracksuits with the GOTS certificate. The needles should be sharp enough not to damage the fabric, and the threads should be strong and durable so that they do not twist or break during sewing. We recommend using quality sewing machines with well-adjusted thread tensioners.

  • Cutting, Sewing, Gluing

Knitwear , knitwear and tracksuit fabric with GOTS certificate are pleasant to process. When cutting these fabrics, it is important to use sharp scissors to keep the cuts clean and straight.

GOTS certified fabrics are designed to be as durable and long-lasting as possible, but still require proper care and maintenance.

  • Washing: temperature, cycle, detergents

Knitwear , knitwear and tracksuits with GOTS certification are usually suitable for washing in the washing machine on a gentle cycle at low temperatures, usually around 30 degrees. It is important to use ecological detergents that are not too aggressive for these sensitive materials.

  • Ironing: temperature, steam, pad

These fabrics can be ironed at milder temperatures, using steam to achieve a smooth and even appearance. When ironing, it is important to use an iron with an adjustable temperature and ideally with a steam generation function. This will allow all wrinkles and creases to be ironed out smoothly without damaging the fabric.

As for the pad, it's best to use a soft, smooth finish that won't leave marks on the fabric. Materials such as knit , twill and GOTS certified tracksuits can be prone to wear and tear if ironed too hard or on a surface that is not smooth.

  • Drying

These fabrics are best dried naturally. If possible, it is ideal to dry them in a dryer or spread out on a clean, dry towel. If a dryer must be used, it should be set to low heat and a longer cycle.
