Method of maintenance of fabrics and clothing
For every fabric or garment, there are many symbols of their maintenance, which determine how we should take care of the given fabric . They tell us how to wash and dry the fabric , whether we can dry clean it or iron it .
These symbols began to be used at the end of the 1950s. Their definitive form was known in 1963 by the European Association for Maintenance Symbols in France.
All symbols indicate the highest possible load for a given substance, and if it is exceeded, it can usually be irreversibly damaged. If we keep the substances more gently than indicated, nothing happens and the substances will not be harmed.
The symbol for washing is the tub, which determines the temperature at which the fabric can be washed. If these symbols are underlined, we must pay particular attention to the way they are maintained. Such substances require very gentle handling.
Bleaching is indicated by a triangle, which allows whether it is possible to use chlorinated bleaching agents on the given substance . If this symbol is crossed out, no bleaching agents containing chlorine may be used on the given substance .
Drying is indicated by a square with a circle in the middle that resembles a dryer. If this symbol is crossed out, it must not be tumble dried.
An iron with dots that indicate the maximum value at which the given fabric can be ironed . One dot means 110°C, two dots 150°C and three dots 200°C. If the iron is crossed out, it is forbidden to iron the fabric .
It is marked with a circle, in which the possibilities of how to professionally clean the given substance are listed.
