Zip or zipper

Every morning, with the help of this invention, we fasten our jackets, sweatshirts, pants, children, school backpacks, handbags, suitcases and many other necessary things. It can be very subtle or visible, but most of the time we don't even realize what this little invention means to us.

History of the development of the zipper

The first mention of a zipper was in the United States in 1851, but unfortunately the invention was never put into practical use. Another attempt to patent this invention in the name of a zipper was in 1891 with the use for fastening shoes, which was supposed to work on the principle of two rows of hooks that lock into each other. It was only in 1913 that the zipper was given a shape that has not changed much to this day.

In the beginning, the zip had a very difficult time. It was only used for World War I soldiers. This invention caused great outrage among civilians, and it was only taken to the mercy of shoe manufacturers, who named it after the sound it made.

The use of zippers only began to expand in the 1930s on children's clothing, which are easier for children's fingers to handle. Zippers gradually spread to adult clothing as well. The British King Edward VIII and the fashion designer Elsi Schiaperlli were largely responsible for the expansion of the zipper in the last century.

What types of zippers do we have in the e-shop?

Metal, plastic, bone, spiral, hidden or endless zippers . We have an abundance of zippers , just choose the appropriate one that we will need for the given thing. We use it every day and don't even realize it's there.

Where does which zip fit:

  • metal zippers - ideal for trousers and skirts made of denim , thicker materials, canvas
  • plastic zippers - for costume fabrics , weaker materials
  • bone zippers - coarser materials, softshell , fleece
  • spiral zippers - for skirts, pants made of costume fabrics, knitwear
  • hidden zip - for fine materials for social wear, silk , satin
  • endless zipper - ideal for bedding, cotton covers

When it comes to the zipper, think about its length, after all, it has to help us put things on our body snugly, and it will be quite difficult for us to do it with a short zipper.
